A Busy Start to 2019 at Sock HQ

January. As months of the year go, it gets a pretty bad rap. December is filled with glitz, glamour and gifts, April heralds the start of spring and sunshine (not in Scotland but we can dream) and even boring old November gets fireworks! But dismal January has weight gain, hibernation, dreaded credit card statements and a nationwide pledge to ditch alcohol (who came up with that?!). However, it’s not all bad is it? The beginning of a new year and what’s not to love about a fresh start? The days start to get lighter, it should get warmer and shops have started selling Easter eggs. There *is* light (and chocolate) at the end of the tunnel.

While 90% of the population was snuggled up watching You on Netflix, we started the year with a bang here at Sock HQ! Sharing images of our new collection on Instagram (follow us @houseofcheviot) during AW18 created a buzz amongst our customer base which is reflected in our forward order intake since returning from holiday.

We officially launched our new collections last week while attending two trade shows. Our MD James was at BETA International in Birmingham while Ann and I enjoyed a few days in Glasgow at Scotland’s Trade Fair. Throughout the 3 days at the SECC many orders were placed (a trade show record for us), there was a steady stream of new enquiries and positive feedback from existing customers. The highlight of the show (apart from the free ice cream, more on that later) is meeting our lovely customers. We have a diverse range of customers from many different countries around the world so it’s nice to catch up. The dreaded ‘B’ word didn’t come up too often either…


It was great looking around to see what else Scotland has to offer; quintessential Scottish products, weird and wonderful gifts and tasty treats to try. The food hall was a favourite of mine – with an abundance of delicious samples to try it gave me an instant mid-afternoon pick-me-up. A special thank you to Stewart Tower Dairy who kept my sugar levels topped up by allowing me to work my way through their many flavours – I highly recommend the mint choc chip.

Overall, the show was a huge success and James enjoyed a positive 3 days in Birmingham. Being out of the office was good but I’m enjoying being back at my desk – I don’t think my waistline could cope with another few days in Glasgow…

As January comes to an end we look forward to new challenges and exciting product plans in February – watch this space! One last thing… did you make a New Year’s resolution? Every year we make the same promise; to provide our customers with the world’s best country and kilt socks with customer service to match. A resolution that won’t be broken.
