Keeping Hearts & Feet Warm
Did you know that socks are the most-needed but least-donated items in homeless shelters?
#SOCKTOBER is an annual, month long campaign designed to show people that ordinary acts of kindness can make a difference. This October, we want to help so for every order placed with us online, we’ll donate a pair of socks to Edinburgh based charity Social Bite.
Social Bite was set up in 2012 by Alice Thompson and Josh Littlejohn as a sandwich shop in Rose Street, Edinburgh. Their business operates as a social business which means they give away all profits to good causes. In just 9 years they have gone on to employ over 70 members of staff and open a chain of shops across Scotland’s cities. The business now employs several people who have experienced homelessness and it’s through the shared experience of working together that they’ve became aware of the complexity of issues facing people on the streets and the vulnerable situations in which they find themselves.
Social Bite distribute more than 140,000 items of healthy free food via their cafes each year. Most of us take warm drinks, hot meals and clothing for granted and can’t imagine what it must feel like facing such poverty. A small monetary or clothing donation can make a huge difference to someone less fortunate.
Every night an estimated 300,000 people sleep on the streets of the UK. We’re reaching out to those in need starting from the feet up!
With winter coming it’s important for us to do what we can to keep hearts and feet warm.
