The Ultimate Tweed Run Style Guide

Grab your flat cap, best cravat and dust of your penny farthing as it's that time of year again - the Tweed Run is back!

The fantastically quirky event first took place in London in 2009 when hundreds of tweed-clad riders embarked on a cycle race through the capital. Fast forward 8 years and the event is bigger than ever!

If you've been lucky enough to get a ticket for this year's event (taking place on Saturday 6th May) you'll be thrust into the smartly dressed peloton and have the pleasure of cycling 12 miles passing sights such as Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. Along the way, you'll stop for a tea break and picnic (Tweed Run code for a jolly good knees-up).

Proper attire is expected and according to the Tweed Run organisers, the term "overdressed" does not exist! So, what should a chap and chapess wear for the occasion? Follow my style guide and you'll be a shoe-in (pun very much intended) for the highly coveted Best Dressed prize.

Chaps, lycra is heavily frowned upon so channel Sherlock Holmes, not Bradley Wiggins! You can't go wrong with a classic tweed jacket from Schoffel, an eye-catching pullover from event sponsors Cordings and flamboyant House of Cheviot argyle socks. Tweed plus fours are a must, I love the loden pair by Farlows as they're not only dapper but also fully lined for comfort - very important when cycling! Cheaney brogues and an Alan Paine shirt will compliment your mostly tweed ensemble while stylish accessories such as a silk cravat and a Barbour flat cap will complete your Tweed Run look.

Chapesses, think Katharine Hepburn-esque 1930s style glamour; finger wave hair, red lips and elegant clothing. Cordings Wincanton tweed breeks ooze Tweed Run sophistication and look great with a chic white shirt from Dubarry and classic brogues with a metallic twist from Brora. Stand out from the crowd in a gorgeous green Sporting Hares jacket, a silk scarf and statement trilby hat

With less than 2 weeks to go the excitement is palpable, here's hoping the 2017 Tweed Run is a roaring success once again. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a beautiful sunny Spring day and look forward to seeing the wonderful outfits on display. Have a smashing day Tweed Runners!
