Scotland Return to the World Cup 2026: Kilt Socks Head to Boston with the Tartan Army

Scotland Return to the World Cup 2026: Kilt Socks Head to Boston with the Tartan Army

Twenty eight years. That's how long Scotland fans have waited to see our national team back on football's biggest stage.

The last time Scotland played at a World Cup was 1998. I was seven years old. My memories are hazy now but I remember the excitement more than the football itself. Flags hanging from windows, conversations in shops, and grown ups talking about the team selection and chances. A feeling that something special was happening.

For an entire generation of Scotland fans, the World Cup has been something we've heard stories about rather than experienced for ourselves. Until now. After twenty eight long years, Scotland are back after a dramatic qualifying campaign ended with a famous victory over Denmark that secured our place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

At House of Cheviot, the excitement has been building for months. The sweepstake has been drawn, football chat has become even more frequent and most importantly, the kilt sock orders are packed, despatched and making their way across the Atlantic.

Some of our team weren't even born the last time Scotland played at a World Cup. Others can remember every moment. Yet whether you're reliving old memories or experiencing it for the first time, there's a shared feeling that only supporting Scotland can bring. Hope.

Thousands of members of the Tartan Army have descended on the United States, turning parts of Massachusetts into temporary Scottish outposts as they follow the team from city to city. Among the sea of kilts, saltires and Scotland shirts, we know there will be plenty of House of Cheviot socks making the journey too.

There's something incredibly special about seeing photographs from around the world featuring products that were designed, knitted and finished right here in Scotland. From Boston pubs to fan zones, from stadiums to city streets, we can't wait to see Scotland supporters proudly representing both their country and Scottish craftsmanship. So if you're heading to the World Cup and wearing House of Cheviot kilt socks, make sure to send us your photos.

And to Steve Clarke and the Scotland squad, you've already given the nation something unforgettable. You've ended nearly three decades of waiting and inspired a new generation of supporters. Now go and enjoy it. The whole country is behind you.

Craig's Incredible Journey

No blog about Scotland's World Cup adventure would be complete without mentioning Craig Ferguson. While most supporters booked flights to America, Craig decided to walk there. Well, almost.

The St Mirren supporter set himself the extraordinary challenge of walking more than 3,000 miles across the United States, from Los Angeles to Boston. His goal was to arrive in Boston in time for Scotland's opening World Cup match.

Craig's 'Tartan Trek' is raising funds and awareness for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH), with a target of raising £1 million for men's mental health support.

It's a remarkable achievement that perfectly captures what makes Scottish football supporters so special. Passion, determination, resilience and a willingness to go the extra mile. Or in Craig's case, 3,000 of them!

If you've enjoyed following Scotland's World Cup journey, we'd encourage you to support Craig's challenge and donate if you're able. Every contribution helps support vital mental health services and recognises an extraordinary effort inspired by the love of Scotland and football.

From Hawick to the World

As Scotland takes to the world stage once again, we're proud to play a small part in the journey. Our socks may not score the goals, make the tackles or save the penalties, but they'll be there every step of the way.

From lifelong fans who remember France '98 to supporters experiencing their first World Cup. Here's to the memories still to be made.

Come on Scotland!
